M3 junction 9 improvements project update
National Highways have now installed the narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit on all the associated roads for the important improvements works. Since then, work started in the central reservation of the M3 to remove the metal vehicle restraint system and posts, and to strip the topsoil.
Work will continue in this area in the daytime. While some of our activities will take place away from the road, you may see workers and machinery nearby.
There’s also some work that needs to take place during overnight closures. Below sets out the planned closures for the next few weeks.
The overnight closures are planned to start from 9pm and end by 6am, but this can change depending on the volume of traffic and when we can close the lanes safely.
Overnight closure update:
- On Tuesday 20 May 2025 we are closing the A34 northbound from the M3 junction 9 to Three Maids Hill and the A33 northbound to Cart and Horse junction. This closure is needed for barrier replacement work.
- Diversion: A34 and A33 northbound diversion
- On Thursday 29 and Friday 30 May 2025 we are closing the M3 junction 9 entry slip road. This closure is needed for vegetation work.
- Diversion: M3 northbound entry slip road diversion
Our diversion routes are designed to suit all vehicle types.
You are advised not to use a Satnav when following any of our diversions because there is a risk it could direct you down an unsuitable road or back onto the original network when it is closed.
Please remember that closures can change at short notice. You can check the latest information on this daily closures page or find live travel information on our Traffic England. Travel alerts give details of live incidents on our network.
