Welhouse Woods

Welhouse Woods is the name given to the stretch of open land that runs between Welhouse Lane and Roman Drive at the top of Kings Barton. This land includes the small balancing pond at the bottom of Cobbe Close and the large balancing pond next to Welhouse Mews.

The ground the Council needs to maintain is made up of scrub ground that borders the path and goes down towards the road (the land directly adjacent to the road is owned by HCC) and recreational grass that runs between the path on the other side and Roman Road.

The Kings Barton Committee has agreed to maintain the area in 3 zones in order to allow for flexibility to respond to different growth patterns. The intention is to cut different areas of the scrub at different times to encourage insects to remain on the site by moving to an unmown area. The swathes of grass on each side of the path and around the balancing pond in Cobbe Close will be kept neat to allow residents to walk on them. The scrub around the larger balancing pond will be cut back occasionally to keep the brambles under control.

The open space was transferred to HWPC in October 2024.
