Earlier this year the contractors lifted into place the new M3 roundabout bridge beams. Since then, they've worked on new road alignments and surfacing. During the summer they've had three weekend closures of the M3 roundabout and associated roads to allow us to open the new roundabout.

Now that all traffic is running on the new M3 junction 9 roundabout alignment they will need to demolish the old bridges as well as complete additional carriageway work on the M3 northbound exit slip road such as associated widening work.

The weekend closures and planned work are detailed below. There is a FAQ sheet posted here M3 Junction 9 Improvement - Headbourne Worthy Parish Council - Headbourne Worthy Parish Council, Headbourne Worthy, Winchester for further information.

The work during this weekend will mainly be surfacing and kerbing, which involves large machines such as planers and asphalt layers.

Due to the complex work needed they need to close it for a full weekend. This is planned for:

Overnight closures of the M3 northbound between junctions 10 and 8 (9pm to 6am) will be required on Friday 9 October and Sunday 11 October 2026 to safely install and remove barriers for the slip road closure. M3 northbound junctions 10 and 8 diversion

Bridge Demolitions

The work will mostly involve using large machines placed on the M3, which will break up the old bridge decks and supports on to the carriageways below, ready to be taken off site and processed for recycling.

Due to the nature of the demolition work will need to close the M3 in both directions between junctions 8 and 9 over two weekends. These are planned for:

***Important Information***

From Monday 14 September until late November 2026 Easton Lane westbound towards Tesco will be reduced to one lane. This to allow work to start on the embankment and the old southwest subway.

Don't Forget - M3 junction 9 northbound entry slip road will be closed from 9pm Friday 31 July 2026 until winter 2027 – this means there will be no access the M3 northbound from the roundabout.

The diversion routes are designed to suit all vehicle types.

You are advised not to use a Satnav when following any of the diversions because there is a risk it could direct you down an unsuitable road or back onto the network when it is closed.
