Notices of road closures are posted on the News section of this website as and when they are received from the contractors.

Vegetation Clearance

As part of the project, the contractors are delivering several environmental enhancements as well as re-planting once works are completed.

You can find out more about the chalk grassland restoration here: Chalk Grassland factsheet

Vegetation is removed in a way to minimise the risk to the harming of wildlife. The project has conducted the necessary ecological checks prior to clearance to ensure animals and bird are identified, and appropriate controls are implemented.

Installation of the gyratory bridge beams

Recently the contractors required a full closure of the M3 over two separate weekends. During these occasions the contractors managed a very successful installation of the northern and southern gyratory bridge beams during the full closure of the M3.

Using a 750‑tonne crane, they safely lifted and positioned the four 100‑tonne, 48m braced steel beams onto the new abutments. This was the first of two new bridges that will form the newly aligned junction 9 gyratory. Photographs below.

Permanent formwork is now in place ahead of the upcoming deck concrete pours and following highways works.

Thanks to detailed planning and incredible teamwork across the project and partners, the contractors safely installed the new beams between 9pm on Saturday 7 February and 9pm on Sunday 8 February 2026.

This installation follows the successful removal of the old edge beam in November and marks another important step towards strengthening and upgrading the Kings Worthy Bridge.
