Watercress Way Charity seeks new Trustees
Headbourne Worthy Parish Council
The Watercress Way Charity is looking for two new trustees. The Charity has been operational since 2015 and are continuing to develop the 27 mile circular route between Alresford and Sutton Scotney. They are looking for a treasurer and someone with an ecological background.
This grassroots, local charity was set up in 2015 . It has negotiated with multiple land owners, local authorities, and the South Downs National Park to establish a circular marathon length walking trail, using two disused railway lines and historic rights of way NE of Winchester. Cyclists and horse riders can use much of the route, with alternative sections and loops. The trail is waymarked with our distinctive logo, and by interpretation boards, which reflect the role of watercress production along the route. The charity works with the local community and other conservation groups to restore the heritage and conserve the ecology along the railway lines. Their biggest project in 2019 was clearing the railway bridge at Sutton Scotney, abandoned since the 1960s. See their website, social media feeds and The Hampshire Chronicle for our progress.
