Speed Watch - A call for volunteers
Headbourne Worthy Parish Council
Alarm has been expressed by residents of the village and by Neighbourhood Watch regarding speeding traffic, especially in Wellhouse Lane. The road surface there is now appalling and a contributory factor to safety concerns.
For those who do not know there was a fatal accident by the postbox a few years ago. Residents mounted a petition which resulted in an appropriate road surface and a 30 mph speed limit for the bend section of that road.
However, at present, both road surface and regard of required speed limit are useless becuase of the quantity of traffic coming through from Kings Barton. At peak times the road could be described a race track!
Our police team and Parish Council are seriously intent on having a Speed Watch to patrol the road but like Neighbourhood Watch it relies upon volunteers..
Therefore residents are being asked to consider:
1. Assissting in the role of Neighbourhood Watvh coordinator to cascade information and advice. This is a valued source of communication.
2. Volunteering to set up a Speed Watch for the village.
Earlier this year our present Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator had the privilege of being invited to join ACC Chilton and the Thames Valley PCC to judge the regional Citizens in Policing awards. She said it was humbling it was to find out how much support volunteers give the police across the south of England. The Speed Watch team from Curdridge won an award for one of the categories.
